Definitions: Globalization and Labor

Absolute Advantage: The ability to produce a good or service at a lower cost than other producers.

Comparative Advantage: The principle that countries should export goods and services in which they have a "relative" cost advantage (i.e. the greatest cost advantage or the least cost disadvantage) and import those goods and services in which they have a "relative" cost disadvantage.

Sweatshops: Work places that force workers to work long hours, under difficult conditions for low wages. Workers may also be "exploited" by forcing them to work time for which they are not paid or by failing to pay them wages or benefits they have earned. Sweatshops often violate local labor/employment laws.
