Evaluation in Sociology of Work (Soc 311): Student evaluation for grading purposes (in terms of how much each type of assignment will count ) are delineated in this section of the home page. The things which will count toward your grade are:

Journals: These are due according to the posted schedule.. Students will discuss their journal entries in class and hand in their journals every time. See the link for journals to see what is expected. Journals will count 15% of the semester grade.

Critiques: Critiques are due on the dates indicated on the home page. See the link for critiques. If you do critiques, you must do two and you will not be doing a presentation. Each critique counts 15% of the semester grade so the total of two critiques will count for 30% of the semester grade.
Class Participation: This includes attending all class sessions, doing the reading as assigned in advance, and asking questions and offering comments on journal presentations by other students. This will not count any particular percentage of the semester grade. Rather it will increase the student's grade by something up to 5%. That is, some amount up to 5% will be added onto the student's grade based on the other items.
Quizzes: There will be a series fifteen-minute quizzes during the course of the semester. Each will ask questions about the reading material assigned for the topic beginning that day. Students who unavoidably miss a quiz or wish to improve their grade on a quiz can retake the quiz as part of the final exam. Up to four quizzes can be "retaken" as part of the final exam in addition to any that were missed. Altogether the quizzes will count 30% of the final grade.
Final Exam: The final exam in Soc 311 will be held at noon on Wednesday, December 14, 2011. That exam will count for 25% of the semester grade but it will count more for any student who missed a quiz or is attempting to improve their grade on a quiz.
